To some this may not be new news because this idea has been floating around for a few years now. For others, check it out another film that doesn’t need a reboot might be getting one! Summit has been throwing the idea to reboot Highlander now for quite some time. For awhile they had Justin Lin on board to direct the film but he walked a few months ago. Now Summit is in talks with Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) to direct the potential reboot.
Originally, Justin Lin was going to direct the film, which was written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, but left and went back to work on the next Fast & Furious film for Universal. Deadline has reported though that Summit is still in the process of producing a script for the film and is currently working on the redraft.
Not much is know about the new film or how closely it will follow the 1986 film which featured Sean Connery and Christopher Lambert. Personally, I think Summit needs to live by the film’s saying “There can be only one” and just leave the film alone. Highlander was a very entertaining film back in the day, but I just don’t think they can capture the energy of the first one, not to mention the original didn’t do very well in theaters. If in fact Juan Carlos does sign on to do the film, we can expect a flurry of names to start appearing for the lead roles.
