Pop singer Katy Perry (The Smurfs) is the next radio-friendly regular to hit the big screen in a 3D concert experience. Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never, Glee’s concert movie, Miley Cyrus’s Best of Both Worlds, and Michael Jackson’s This Is It is proof that there’s success to be had with these kinds of films.
Paramount is in talks with Perry’s people to make the untitled-as-of-yet feature, which will be directed by Nanette Bernstein, according to Deadline. The movie will be centered around the singer-songwriter, and will include “concert footage but [it] is a real story and the story of her growing up and becoming a global sensation.” The film is set for a summer release in June or July.
Does anybody really care to see such a big production made over the pop star? Yeah, these “movies” make millions, but wouldn’t they just be better off making a DVD and distributing it? Are we that hungry for the 3D experience in a movie theater? Your thoughts?
