The much talked about mega-ensemble romantic comedy New Year’s Eve has hit a snag in casting. Oscar winner Halle Berry (Frankie & Alice) has dropped out of the project, but former Grey’s Anatomy star and Emmy winner Katherine Heigl will take her place. Hit the jump for more details & to see the star-studded lineup!
Keyt.com claims that Berry is currently undergoing legal matters to gain custody of her 3-year-old daughter, who she shares with her model ex-boyfriend, Gabriel Aubrey. Aside from the X-Men franchise, Berry’s on-screen success since her performance in Monster’s Ball has been a difficult challenge for the actress. She can be seen next in the thriller Dark Tide opposite her currently rumored boyfriend, Olivier Martinez (Unfaithful).
Enter Heigl into the Garry Marshall-directed mix, along with a very headline-worthy cast. Despite the 16-year age difference between the actress and Jon Bon Jovi (Moonlight & Valentino), somehow with love in the air, the pair carries on a romantic entanglement that’s supposed to be believable amidst the holiday season, accordingly to Cinema Blend. Surely, boyfriends and husbands everywhere are rolling their eyes at the prospect of a Valentine’s Day-like sequel to which they will be dragged to, but the combination of stars could make for some memorable movie magic under the December 31st celebratory backdrop.
IMDB reveals that two of Heigl’s co-stars are also in the film, Ashton Kutcher (The Killers) and Josh Duhamel (Life As We Know It). The rest of the cast includes Robert De Niro (Little Fockers), Sofí a Vergara (Modern Family), Lea Michele (Glee), Jessica Biel (The A-Team), Zac Efron (Me and Orson Welles), Michelle Pfeiffer (Ché ri), Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine), Sienna Miller (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra), Hilary Swank (Conviction), Sarah Jessica Parker (Sex & the City 2), Sara Paxton (Aquamarine), Frankie Muniz (Malcolm in the Middle), Seth Meyers (Saturday Night Live), and Til Schweiger (Inglorious Basterds).
Heigl’s latest project, One for the Money, opens July 8th with John Leguizamo (The Happening), Debbie Reynolds (Singing in the Rain), Sherri Shepherd (30 Rock), and two actors who are currently or have been on Heigl’s former medical drama- Jason O’Mara (Life on Mars) and Daniel Sunjata (Rescue Me). According to IMDB, the storyline is as follows: “Unemployed and newly-divorced Stephanie Plum lands a job at her cousin’s bail-bond business, where her first assignment puts her on the trail of a wanted local cop from her romantic past.” Sound like Jennifer Aniston’s failed The Bounty Hunter?
New Year’s Eve is set for a December 9th release. Army Wives writer Katherine Fugate and Marshall will hopefully have a winner on their hands, but if not, we can always assume that there’s some Arbor Day-themed love quadrilateral on the horizon for more famous names.
