Warning: This post may contain spoilers. There have been so many rumors about Joss Whedon‘s The Avengers, we don’t really know what to believe anymore. So with that being said, proceed with caution in regards to the information within.
What better person to clear some of the rumors about the villains in the film then Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. This guy would never lie to Empire Magazine right? Let’s find out!
There have been many rumors that Loki will have an alien army at his disposal and many have assumed it would be the Skrulls. With the Skrulls being introduced in the first film, this would lead to the sequel which would probably include the Kree-Skrull war. Here is what Feige told Empie:
Who said they were aliens?…It’s not Skrulls, I’ve been clear about that. Beyond that, we want to hide it. The identity of the alien race is not impactful. It exists in the comic books, but we’re not setting up the Kree-Skrull war or anything like that
Boom rumor HULK SMASHED!!!
He was then asked if the aliens were from the Nine Realms and he responded with “closer“.
Also there have been rumors that Red Skull and Loki team up as well in the film in search for the Cosmic Cube and Infinity Gauntlet. Feige had the following to say regarding Skull:
Was Skull vaporised at the end of the movie, or thrust into another realm? That remains to be seen. It would be fun to see Skull in future, but he’s not in this one.
So see just like that we have a much clearer understanding of what to expect from the film. There are no secret rumors about random villains or heroes to discuss anymore in the …. oh wait, here we go again thanks to Jenny Agutter who apparently is now in the film.
She told The Radio Times that she a small role in the film but that she couldn’t disclose anything more than that. Great so just when you think all is well and good she decides to drop the following information, (which people, please take the following information with a grain of salt). Here is the article thanks to Bleeding Cool:
I’m sworn to secrecy! I wasn’t allowed a script until I got there, and when I did I felt like a complete child being on big sets and a huge parking lot full of Winnebagos.”
She does let slip that two of these housed Spider-Man and Iron Man; we suspect Agutter won’t able to avoid sci-fi conventions for much longer.
OK, so for some people, you might be thinking that this isn’t a big deal because Spider-Man does become an Avenger, which is true. However, Marvel Studios doesn’t own the rights to Spider-Man as strange as it sounds, Sony does. So unless Marvel paid Sony a small fee so they could use either the Spider-Man name and/or cameo in the film, this is probably all a big misunderstanding. Unless this really is the end of the world and Sony and Marvel have a secret agreement that would allow for a multi-studio crossover somehow. Who knows!
Well, I guess we will have to wait until May 4th to really know the truth.
