Last year, Movie Buzzers brought to our readers news on the upcoming Snow White & the Huntsman adaptation of the Grimm Brothers’ classic tale. We’ve recently learned that Twilight’s pouty-faced anti-celebrity wannabe Kristen Stewart is being eyed by execs at Universal for the part of the “fairest of them all.” With names like Charlize Theron (The Road) rumored to play the Evil Queen and Viggo Mortensen (On The Road) to play the huntsman, there’s some major star power lined up. Keep reading for more details!
Stewart is still working on the final Twilight installment, Breaking Dawn Part One and Part Two, however she has some competition with Australian actress Emily Browning (Sucker Punch) for the coveted role. Up And Comers.net explains that Browning is among a slew of lesser known names in Hollywood who have been added to the mix of leading ladies. Other names include newcomer Alicia Vikander, model Riley Keough (The Runaways, and granddaughter to Elvis Presley), Felicity Jones (The Tempest), and Bella Heathcote (Twylight Zones). Browning had been a name in contention for Stewart’s part in the Twilight series during its earlier stages, and was also “runner-up to Rooney Mara during the casting process for David Fincher’s ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.’”
However, IMDB gives us more rumored details like Michael Fassbender’s (Inglorious Basterds) involvement, as well. We see Theron’s name, knowing her recent withdrawal from Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar movie, where Naomi Watts stepped in.
Deadline reveals that the circle of actors keeps overlapping as Theron’s The Road co-star Mortensen is supposed to take Fassbender’s role as the huntsman, but Fassbender is committed to Ridley Scott’s Prometheus with Theron and Noomi Rapace. Stewart has also wrapped her role as Marylou in the Jack Kerouac adaptation On The Road with Mortensen. The Hollywood Reporter adds that the role of the huntsman, “a secondary character in the centuries-old tale… becomes Snow White’s protector and mentor.”
Director Rupert Sanders has his hands full with decisions, but personally, I hope that the studio goes with Browning, an actress who’s star power is about to skyrocket, especially with Sucker Punch’s March 25, 2011 release. Snow White & the Huntsman is set for a December 12, 2012 release, and should at least have the pretty face of an actress who isn’t riddled with frowns (like Stewart) for its movie poster.
