In just over a month, we’ll finally be able to see what all the fuss is about for Baz Luhrmann’s reinterpretation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. As we know, the film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as the title character, Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, Carey Mulligan as Daisy Fay Buchanan, Joel Edgerton as Tom Buchanan, Isla Fisher as Myrtle Wilson, and Elizabeth Debicki as Jordan Baker.
In the newest and latest trailer, we get to see Luhrmann’s romantic vision for Gatsby and Daisy as the memories of their past affair return to rekindle their chemistry, even though Daisy is married to an over-bearing Tom and Gatsby has a secret. The focus of the trailer is mainly on this love triangle, with little showing of Maguire, glimpses to Fisher, and hardly anything for Debicki.
Although, we get a spoiler sneak peek at Gatsby’s decadent lifestyle beyond his fabulous parties on his Long Island estate. The spectacle also includes flashes of the amazing results behind the collaboration between costume designer Catherine Martin and Miu Miu / Prada mastermind, Miuccia Prada, with Mulligan’s various Jazz Age frocks and art deco accessories, which are all sure to hit the pages of the most popular fashion magazines.
However, Luhrmann is known for his over-the-top productions, which always include a worthy soundtrack to accompany the drama. In this case, we hear from Beyoncé whose alluring covering Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black” with Andre 3000 is just as audibly luxe as we’d expect. In addition, Florence and the Machine and Lana Del Rey lend their vocals to what is sure to be a best-selling movie soundtrack, hopefully with companion music videos to follow.
The movie hits theaters on May 10th and will likely set the summer Blockbuster season off with one glamorous bang. What do you think of this latest trailer? Do you like the new angle for the preview to this highly-anticipated film?
