It looks like David Goyer (The Dark Knight) is out and Max Borenstein is in for Legendary Pictures’ reboot of Godzilla, according to The Holywood Reporter.
Borenstein doesn’t have many credits listed to his name yet, but the guy re-wrote the fantasy film The Seventh Son, just handed in a script to WB for Art of the Steal (no relation to the documentary), and is also working on the Jimi Hendrix biopic, Jimi. If Legendary has more faith in him than in Goyer, or if the script for Goyer sucked, it doesn’t matter to me. I’m a big advocate of LEgendary and believe they can’t go wrong with their new selection. They haven’t failed me yet and I don’t think they are going to want to anything to go wrong with a reboot of one of the most famous monsters in the world.
The film, which is being directed by Monsters helmer Gareth Edwards, is set to be released in 3D in 2014. One working title suggests that it will be called Godzilla vs. Deathla while another suggests Godzilla: 3D to the Max, which is a terrible name and probably won’t be it. At least the first title may expose the villain which has yet to be annoucned.
