Clint Eastwood seemed to get Matt Damon in a 2-for-1 deal when he cast him forInvictus and his follow-up Hereafter, and it seems like he’s now trying to pull the same trick with Leonardo DiCaprio, who is the lead in Eastwood’s upcoming J. Edgar.
According to Deadline, Eastwood is trying to sway DiCaprio into joining him in the lead male role on the director’s upcoming remake of A Star is Born alongside pop star/sometimes actress Beyoncé. Initial rumors suggested Will Smith would take the role — a boozing movie star whose stardom is declining while his female counterpart’s singing career begins to skyrocket — but rumors suggests that Warner Bros. and Eastwood are both keen to cast DiCaprio. After all, as I’ve said before, casting a white actor opposite Beyoncé would no doubt add something fresh to a story that has been remade several times already.
We’ll see what happens, but with DiCaprio currently in the cast for The Great Gatsby and Django Unchained and rumored for whatever Martin Scorsese has next, will he even have time for this?
