Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all? Lily Collins (The Blind Side) is for Tarsem Singh’s The Grimm Brothers: Snow White, as confirmed by Entertainment Weekly. Also, one of the breakout stars of last year’s The Social Network, Armie Hammer, is cast as Prince Andrew Alcott.
Movie Buzzers has already reported that this project includes Oscar winner Julia Roberts playing the Evil Queen. According to IMDB, the movie is “a dark twist on the classic fairy tale, in which Snow White and the seven dwarfs look to reclaim their destroyed kingdom.”
Monsters and Critics refers to UK’s Daily Mail with a quote from Collins about her part in the movie: “White was my favorite fairytale [growing up], and when I first read about the project, I was like, I have to get in on this. It’s such an iconic character.”
Singh (director of The Cell) also has other noteworthy behind-the-scenes names attached to this movie including cinematographer Brendan Glavin (Behind Enemy Lines) and Oscar winning costumer designer Eiko Ishioka (Dracula).
Collins, daughter of singer Phil, broke out as Sandra Bullock’s daughter in The Blind Side, but has a full plate of projects having just completed Priest with Paul Bettany, Maggie Q, and Cam Gigandet and the thriller Abduction with Taylor Lautner and Alfred Molina. The actress also looks forward to playing opposite Anton Yelchin as Stormy Llewellyn in Odd Thomas, the adventure drama The Mortal Instruments, and a revival of William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, as the fairer half of the plighted star-crossed lovers.
Hammer is currently finishing on Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar, and is rumored to be attached to the fantasy romance Serpent Girl with Malin Akerman, Kate Bosworth, and Helen Hunt.
The Grimm Brothers: Snow White is of course one of many Snow White-themed projects currently in the making, but you can check out our last article on Kristen Stewart in Rupert Sanders’ interpretation Snow White & the Huntsman, as well as more news on Francis Lawrence’s Snow White & the Seven.
Who do you think makes a better Snow White? Collins of Stewart? What do you think about all these different versions? Is Hollywood too desperate to revive the classic story we all know and love?
