Now this is what I call music to my ears. Yesterday it was announced that New Line Cinema is officially bringing back the live-action Mortal Mobat franchise to the big screen after years of people begging for a new film. The film is set to be written by Oren Uziel and directed by Kevin Tancharoen (Glee: The Documentary; Fame), the two men responsible for the short film, Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, that went viral via YouTube earlier this year. It was this short that inspired new interest inthe project due to the immense popularity of the webseries that starred Michael Jai White, Jeri Ryan, Matt Mullins, Ian Anthony Dale and Lateef Crowder.
The new Mortal Kombat film has no title at the moment and the plot is going to be underwraps for quite some time. All that I can hope for is an awesome techno theme song that I can rock out to like in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, the last Mortal Kombat film to hit the screen way back in 1997. Actually, I do have to hope for one more thing, that the acting doesn’t suck and we don’t end up with a film like Tekken or Street Fighter The Legend of Chun Lee.
