If Marvel was to ask the entire world to write down 50 actors and actresses they would like to potentially see in Guardians of the Galaxy, I am willing to bet no one would have put either Jim Carrey nor Adam Sandler anywhere on their list. The latest rumor to come out of Hollywood is that Marvel is currently pursuing and checking the availability of both comedians for potential roles in Guardians.
Latino Review broke the news last night that there was something strange going on over at Marvel and that this rumor is looking to be a pretty legitimate one. There is no word as to what role or roles the two would be filling, however it is a safe bet that they would probably be used more for voice work for either Rocket Raccoon or Groot.
Having read only a few of the Guardian comics and doing some research, the only logical choice, in my opinion, would be for Carrey to play the role of Groot, and Sandler maybe voicing Rocket, however it still doesn’t seem right. It is very interesting to see Marvel potentially going this route especially with two actors who have failed to deliver when it comes to the box office in their most recent films.
If you would have told me about this casting say back in the mid 90’s, I would have been jumping for joy and been pumped to see these two in this film however, seeing this news now makes me kind of step back and re-examine what Marvel’s hopes are with the James Gunn directed film. Are they really taking this seriously or do they just want to get a few big names to help sell a film they are unsure about? I guess only time will tell and hopefully we will start seeing some official casting news shortly for the film.
So what do you think, is this a smart move by Marvel to bring on one or both of these comedians for the film, or is it a recipe for disaster?
