Remember back when The Avengers Blu-Ray was announced along with the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled box set that many people rushed out and preordered only to find out they wouldn’t be getting it anytime soon? Well looks like the lawsuit has been settled over the briefcase the box set was housed in and things are back on track for the Phase One box set to hit next year.
Entertainment Weekly spoke with Marvel Studios President and God of the Comic film industry Kevin Feige recently and got him to spill the beans about the box set and some of the additional treats they have added to make up for the delay. Originally the box set was to house all of the original Phase One films (Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Iron Man 2, Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers) Along with a light up Tesseract cube housed in a steel briefcase. Well, since fans have had to wait so long to get their set, Feige mentioned that they have included never before seen deleted scenes from all of the prior films plus there will be an exclusive teaser for all of the Phase Two films included in the new set. The films that will make up Phase Two will be Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers 2.
Many maybe wondering how exactly this will happen since the vast majority of these films have yet to begin production besides Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World. Feige had the following to say regarding the Phase Two Teases:
Footage, concept art, and a few new surprises. Also, look for a nod to Iron Man 3 in the Tony Stark S.H.I.E.L.D. file in the box set.
This makes a bit more sense, there is concept art for Guardians as well as the Ant-Man test footage and a few things floating around about Captain America and The Avengers 2. Will this have some actual footage from any of these films? Probably not, but it will be very interesting to see what they decide to include and to see how far along they are with these Phase Two films.
Referring back to Feige’s mention of the S.H.I.E.L.D files, this is also something new that will be included in the box set and to me it seems like a pretty kickass piece . Basically the files will be an interactive sort of feature that will allow fans to see all the connections that are made throughout Phase One and how they impacted each film that led up to The Avengers.
When asked about the files, Feige had the following to say:
We spent an embarrassing amount of time compiling the ‘Shield Files’ included in the box set to be sure that each character’s file was full of great, movie-accurate props and Easter eggs, which help tie all of the Phase one [Marvel Comics Universe] films together
Overall, it seems that Marvel plans of delivering big on the updated box set to make up for the issues that occurred. The set will still be priced at $219 but will now be released April 2, 2013 pending any setbacks or issues. Pre-orders are now available if you are interested in grabbing this amazing set. If I didn’t have all the movies on Blu-Ray already, I would definitely be grabbing one of these and messing with the Cube all day long!
