The stars of the hit romcom Sleepless in Seattle and the slightly less acclaimed (although I personally have a soft spot for it) You’ve Got Mail, are finally teaming up again for another film. Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks are getting back together for the World War II coming-of-age drama, Ithaca, but there’s some sad news, the duo won’t be on screen together. Ithaca will be Ryan’s directorial debut and Hanks will be lending his hand to produce the film, which also stars Sam Shepard, Melanie Griffith and Jack Quaid.
Adapted from the novel, The Human Comedy, the film focuses on a teenage boy who, after his brother goes off to fight in the war, is tasked with looking after his family — a widowed mother, an older sister and a younger brother.
It’s not Ryan’s first attempt at making a film however, in 2011, it was announced that Ryan would direct Into The Beautiful, described as “a contemporary Big Chill with longtime friends reconnecting”, but it was never made. As well as directing, Meg Ryan will also star in the film – presumably as the widowed mother – and we can only hope somehow, someway, they can sneak Hanks in there with a small cameo so the two can complete the hat-trick together!
