I thought we hit the bottom of the barrel when Battleship was being made into a movie. But perhaps we’re under the barrel now, since Deadline is reporting that MGM has purchased the rights to make a live action Where’s Waldo? movie.
Yes, Where’s Waldo?, the classic “find the dude in the red and white shirt” children’s book series, which I loved in about 1990 when I was all of seven, is on its way to the big screen. How anyone intends to turn a book which primarily involves searching for a character in a large, cluttered image into a movie is anyone’s guess, but I guess that would be a question for MGM. No word if the movie will revert the character to his original UK name, Wally.
I know Where’s Waldo? was made into a cartoon series (I totally remember watching it), but I don’t remember it lasting all that long. Well, good luck to MGM, but I don’t see this working out, well unless they can get a unique, totally off-the-wall concept going.
