Mia Wasikowska (The Kids Are All Right) is the in-demand actress of the moment. Having just signed on to Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge, directed by Anthony LaPaglia, and starring in the upcoming screen adaptation of Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre, the Alice in Wonderland actress is certainly becoming brighter on on the Hollywood radar. Up next for the Australian-born actress is possibly a role in Wentworth Miller’s highly anticipated Stoker. Hit the jump to find out more!
Wasikowska recently had her name tied to John Hillcoat’s The Wettest County, but will no longer be attached to the project since Stoker has come into the mix. Miller (known for his starring role in Prison Break) wrote the thriller script for Fox Searchlight under a pseudonym Ted Foulke, which is to be directed by Oldboy and Thirst visionary Chan-wook Park. This will be a momentous occasion for lovers of Park’s work because it will mark his English language debut, something many have been waiting for here in the US. Deadline gives us this information, along with the details that brothers “Ridley and Tony Scott will produce with Michael Costigan under the Scott Free banner.”
The website explains this about the storyline: Wasikowska will “play an eccentric teen whose enigmatic and estranged uncle returns to the family after the death of the girl‘s father. Strange things begin to happen.” Miller has also penned a prequel to this story called Uncle Charlie, “a prequel that explores another chapter in the history of a family with a knack for burying secrets as well as bodies.”
Indie Wire also describes the story as “a fantastical, fairy-tale like family drama… people, however, start to go missing in her hometown at the same time and she soon discovers that her uncle may be the cause.” A little birdie planted a rumor of Johnny Depp playing the part of the uncle, but seeing how his agenda is booked up for the next few years, that may not come to fruition.
Prior to this revelation, Carrie Mulligan and Jodie Foster were attached to the film, but they are both getting ready for or working on Baz Luhrman’s The Great Gatsby and Roman Polanski’s God of Carnage, respectively. There is no word yet on anyone else who will be joining the cast, but hearing of this actor-turned writer move for Miller sparks a lot of interest, especially considering the recent uprising of do-it-all young celebrities like James Franco.
