One film that I’ve really been interested in seeing is writer/director Sarah Polley’s new film, Take This Waltz. The actress turned filmmaker’s upcoming indie drama stars Michelle Williams, Seth Rogen, Sarah Silverman, and Luke Kirby. Today the official trailer was released and it looks like the film could be a very solid, down to earth romance, something Hollywood has been unable to truly capture on the screen as of late.
I won’t give you the warning my friend gave me about the film, but rest assured you’ll find it in my review once I see it in a few weeks.
The film will premiere on VOD on May 25th and will open in theaters on June 29th but, if you don’t want to wait, you can catch it at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival.
When Margot (Michelle Williams), 28, meets Daniel (Luke Kirby), their chemistry is intense and immediate. But Margot suppresses her sudden attraction; she is happily married to Lou (Seth Rogen), a cookbook writer. When she learns that Daniel lives across the street from them, the certainty about her domestic life shatters. She and Daniel steal moments throughout the steaming Toronto summer, their eroticism heightened by their restraint. Swelteringly hot, bright and colorful like a bowl of fruit, TAKE THIS WALTZ leads us, laughing, through the familiar, but uncharted question of what long-term relationships do to love, sex, and our images of ourselves.
