While still frustrated on the chaos that was the Mondo Avengers posters, I still love these guys and everything they do. Today, Mondo announced their next series of posters and if you thought trying to get one of the Avengers posters was a challenge just wait for this next series to go on sale.
Tonight was the Mondo Mystery Movie series in Austin and the mystery movie was Return of the King. To some this doesn’t mean a whole lot but to avid collectors of Mondo posters that means one thing, Mondo got the license to do The Lord of the Rings. The first poster in the series was distributed tonight for the Mystery Movie X and was done by Aaron Horkey, which you can check out below.
Varient
- THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING
- Artist: Aaron Horkey
- Size: 19.25 x 39
- Edition: 260 (regular), 125 (variant)
While I’m not a fan of The Lord of the Rings series (I know, I know!) I will say this poster is pretty awesome and very detailed. You can stare at the poster all day and see something new every time.
There hasn’t been a date set for when the rest of the series will hit, but unless you have some special power and know how to get a poster through the Mondo website, you might just want to stare at the pictures.
Here is the press release Mondo sent out earlier today:
