Way back in 2011, a nine episode webseries by the name of Mortal Kombat Legacy hit the net, showcasing a variety of origin stories for many of the video games’ main characters. The main purpose of this was to reboot the film franchise, allowing the director to show Warner Bros. his vision of what his Mortal Kombat movie would look and feel like.
The series was a massive success and became wildly popular. Director Kevin Tancharoen seemed to have a hit on his hands and many thought a new Mortal Kombat movie would finally happen. Well it looks like things didn’t seem to go his way because it’s now 2013 and nothing has come to fruition. Yes, it certainly sucks but there is a bright side. It looks like the series is set to continue for a second season allowing Tancharoen to build on the stories he has already established while introducing some new characters as well.
The Mortal Kombat Legacy continues in Season 2 as Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Kenshi, and Ermac join the ranks. The rivalries and histories of these fierce warriors will unfold as Raiden and his recruits clash against the dark forces of Outworld. The epic battle for Earthrealm has finally begun.
I’ve enjoyed the series thus far and can’t wait to see what the next one has in store. From the look of the trailer we are going to get to see some sweet fights, the introduction of Liu Kang and the start of the Mortal Kombat tournament. If all goes well with this season, I see no reason why a feature film wouldn’t get the green light, especially if this season is one massive set up to said feature.
Take a look at the trailer below and get excited because the “fight” is about to begin!
