When it was first announced, we knew that Shia LaBeouf and crew probably wouldn’t be coming back for another round of Transformer films. Their story was complete and it was time to move on to another group of people who can have their lives changed by Alien robots. We have since learned that Mark Wahlberg will be taking over the lead role in the film, but we still need some youngins to help fill that gap LaBeouf and Megan Fox/Rosie Huntington-Whiteley left us with right?! Today it has been announced that two fairly new comers have been casted for the young male and female lead roles.
Brenton Thwaites and Nicola Peltz have offiically been selected roles in Michael Bay‘s forth Transformer film along side Wahlberg. Both actors have just recently been making a splash in Hollywood, with Peltz having a role in The Last Airbender film and Thwaites recently landing the young prince role in Disney’s Maleficent.
With this casting announcement, we also sort of learn a very very small bit of info about their characters and the story. Peltz will play Wahlberg’s senior in high school daughter, while Thwaites will play her biker boyfriend (who I’m assuming is a dirt biker being Peltz is in high school and he looks like he could pass for maybe 17). Earlier reports said that the female role would be the protagonist this go around, however it seems that Wahlberg’s character will be the real protagonist with the daughter and boyfriend getting dragged along for the ride.
Petlz doesn’t seem like that much of a surprise to me, however I’m not sure about Thwaites, especially with the other actors he beat out for the role. Some of the more notable names up for the role were Luke Grimes (Taken 2), Landon Liboiron (Terra Nova) and Hunter Parrish (Weeds), who was my personal preference for the role. I haven’t seen much of Thwaites so we will have to wait and see, but it will be interesting to see where Transformers 4 takes us. Along with the new cast members, there will also be a new group of robots we will be introduced to much like the other three films.
Hopefully with this casting announcement, the studio will release some sort of synopsis, however the film is still many months away from production.
Transformers 4 is slotted for a June 27, 2014 release.
