Do you really want to know? Would you want to live forever? Even just another 500 years? These questions are asked, but not really answered in How To Live Forever.
In the film we see several of the oldest people ranging from the fitness guru,Jack LaLanne, to the oldest living person, singing and mumbling in a wheelchair. Obviously aging is not the same for everyone and there is no recipe for staying alive, but the big question is: How long do we actually WANT to live?
Notable documentary filmmaker, Mark Wexler, switches back and forth between his own personal views and the stories of those he’s following. The result is a little muddled and I couldn’t quite point out what it was supposed to be about. Our reluctance to accept death as inevitable? Staying healthy? Getting the most out of life? Or simply staying alive? All in all though, it was a very interesting look at a topic that doesn’t get much attention.
SPOILER Unfortunately, several of the people highlighted in the film have passed. It is fantastic that they will indeed live forever on film. END SPOILER
I’ll be 35 this year and as I was watching I realized that I could actually be alive for 70 more years. YIKES. It’s funny because I feel like I have no time right now. So how do I make the most of it? How do you? Although the film doesn’t really give many ideas, it does make you realize that there’s a lot of living left.
Rating: Good for ages 1 and up. 5/10
