It really is too bad that writer/director Paul Haggis’s next film, The Next Three Days, is going up against Harry Potter next weekend because the movie is actually very good but it will be destroyed by the pop culture phenom. It has been a very long time since we’ve seen an American “prison break” type film but this one shows some promise not only with a solid script and director but also with the talent attached to the film, namely Russell Crowe, Liam Neeson and Elizabeth Banks, who wasn’t half bad.
Anywho, Paul Haggis, the guy that directed Crash, has a nack for understanding how to create a storyline that can keep your attention even during the slower portions of the film. He manages to guide Russell Crowe back to his old form after a lackluster performance in Robin Hood and create a character who is bit more reserved yet ferociously determined, something that we haven’t seen in Crowe since A Beautiful Mind. The Next Three Days also stars Olivia Wilde, RZA, Brian Dennehy, and Jonathan Tucker and will hit US theaters on November 19th.
