While District 9 and Elysium director Neill Blomkamp’s first two films very much action and drama driven, his third feature film is going in a different sci-fi direction, it’s a comedy. His next film, titled Chappie, is set to be released in 2015 but today we are getting our first look at the titular Robot. Additionally, we’ve got a few other pictures of Die Antwood’s ¥o-Landi Vi$$er and Ninja, who play themselves in the film as Chappies’s criminal parents, though these aren’t new.
In addition to the Die Antwoord casting, Chappie also stars Sharlto Copley, Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver, and Dev Patel, so from an acting standpoint there is a lot of promise for the film. I’m hoping Blomkamp will know it out of the part from a comedic standpoint since we know from the tech side it will be a visual feast for the eyes.
After being kidnapped by two criminals during birth, Chappie becomes the adopted son in a strange and dysfunctional family. Chappie is preternaturally gifted, one of a kind, a prodigy. He also happens to be a robot.
