For awhile, people have been gossiping and guessing what Neill Blomkamp‘s next feature film Elysium, would really be about. The facts we did know about the film were that it was going to be a sci-fi flick that would star Matt Damon with a shaved head and would also feature Jodie Foster. Besides that, the film has been kept a secret until now.
Collider posted a screen print of an invitation they received for a special screening of the film and along with the pass, a very detailed synopsis was attached and gives us our first look inside Elysium.
In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.
Here is a photo of the actual pass that was for the showing last night
Based on the synopsis above, it doesn’t seem as if we will be seeing any aliens in this film like we did in District 9, however it still sounds as if there will be an underlining political message in Elysium much like there was in District 9.
I’m not sure who all was invited to this screening or if a gag order was issued on reviews and comments about the film, but I would imagine we should be seeing a trailer fairly soon for the film in the coming weeks.
