After our last article on the upcoming sci-fi drama Under the Skin, some new details have emerged, including more names to add to the roster of actors. Starring Scarlett Johansson (We Bought A Zoo), Beyond Hollywood reports that filming is underway this spring.
For those of you who don’t know, the movie follows “an alien on Earth, disguised as the perfect aesthetic form of a mesmerizing woman. She scours remote highways and desolate scenery looking to use her greatest weapon to snare human prey- her voracious sexuality.”
Set for a 2014 release, which seems like so far from now, you can also expect to see Johansson’s Iron Man 2 co-star Don Cheadle, as well as voice actors Troy Baker, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, and Noah Nelson. Perhaps we can assess that these individuals known for their voice work will portray aliens who Johansson communicates with from her home planet.
Based on the novel of the same name by Michel Faber, Amazon has this description of the story from Publisher’s Weekly: “A strange woman named Isserley roams the Scottish Highlands in search of juicy, well-muscled hitchhikers in Faber’s menacing but unfulfilling debut novel. The opening chapters are suffused with an almost palpable sense of dread: Isserley picks up one hitchhiker after another and engages them in conversation, measuring them against a set of criteria of which the reader, as yet, is unaware. Some of the men are discarded and some are kept; in the process the reader learns that Isserley herself is oddly shaped, with breasts too large, legs too short, and scars everywhere.”
In doing some research on the development of this movie, I came across a video on YouTube of The Tyrone Rubin Film Show, discussing how excited he is for the Johansson-Jonathan Glazer (director of Sexy Beast) on-screen combo. Check out the video and let us know what you think about the highly-anticipated film.
