Well, looks like Mel Gibson will need to find another way to make a comeback…
As I reported a few days ago, the New York Post reported that Mel Gibson would have a cameo in The Hangover 2. His cameo has now been canceled. In addition, it has been rumored that Disney is considering cutting the scenes featuring Keith Richards out of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides! Hit “more” to find out why…
In Gibson’s case, it seems that although the deal was in place for him to play a tattoo artist in The Hangover 2 for over a month, once the news was leaked several cast and crew members expressed being uncomfortable with having Gibson in the film. According to several news sources (including the New York Post, who broke the original news), one of those cast members was Zach Galifianakis. Frankly, I have to repeat the sentiments of several others: I guess having a convicted drug abuser and rapist (Mike Tyson) in the first film is okay, but Mel Gibson isn’t. I’m not defending Gibson, I just don’t see how Tyson is permissible and Gibson isn’t. I guess since I’m not involved in the production and I can’t really know what’s going on behind the scenes, but it just seems to be hypocritical to me… oh well!
As for Keith Richards, Disney executives are apparently worried that the soon-to-be-released autobiography of the Rolling Stones guitarist — which details his five decades of drug abuse and various rock star debaucheries — would bring bad publicity to the Pirates franchise and are now considering excising him from the upcoming film, in which he once again plays Captain Teague, father to Johnny Depp‘s Jack Sparrow. Once again, I have to call foul on this one — does anyone in the world NOT know that Keith Richards has been abusing drugs his whole life? This isn’t exactly a new revelation about Richards, and his various drug problems didn’t prevent Disney from having him in the third film. I imagine Johnny Depp, who’s personal friends with Richards, would push the Disney execs to get over their cold feet… but we’ll see!
What do you think, folks? Are Gibson and Richards “too bad” to be in these films? Let us know in the comments below!
