While at NYCC I had the opportunity to sit down with Michael Morrissey, the writer, director and co-producer of the upcoming dark vigilante crime drama, Boy Wonder, which is set to hit theaters around the country this Friday.
In the interview, Michael discusses how he came up with the idea for the film, how he ended up settling on an actor who was completely the opposite of what he had originally wanted, and the major flaws of the characters and how this entire film is all about perception. He also provides some details about his second feature titled Mother, a psychological thriller which is inspired by true events about a serial killer and her sole survivor.
I highly recommend taking a trip to the theater to see the film. It is a solid, dark character piece that will make you think about how you might handle Sean’s dilemma if you were in your shoes. Unlike many films that come out today, this one will stick with you, resulting in some great debates with those you saw it with. In a way, this movie is more like Batman Begins than Kick-Ass which should give you a better idea as to what kind of film you can expect when you see it. Read Graham’s review HERE.
Boy Wonder stars Caleb Steinmeyer as Sean the titular character, Zulay Henao as the selfish detective Teresa Ames and John Sharian as Sean Donovan’s father.
A young Brooklyn boy witnesses the brutal murder of his mother and grows up obsessed with finding her killer. Thus begins his life as a quiet, straight-A student by day and a self-appointed hero at night. But what is a real hero? And who decides what is right or wrong? As the boundaries blur, Sean’s dual life wears on his psyche and his two worlds careen dangerously close to colliding. Like a graphic novel you can’t put down, Boy Wonder challenges morality, distorting perceptions of what is right and what is justified, as it races to its shocking conclusion.
