After a long first run on the floor at this year’s New York Comic Con, I wanted to pass on my advice as to which booths to stop by and what some of the highlights were the first night.
The first two are movie related. You definitely have to hit up the Magnolia/Magnet Releasing booth for all the awesome genre posters, movies and Ti West autograph session that they are having on Friday. The people are great and they have a lot of awesome swag for you to take with you, especially for the awesome film Tucker & Dale vs. Evil.
The other film related booth is the one for Boy Wonder, a gritty vigilante thriller-ish drama. The case and crew have been signing autographs and they are hosting a free screening of the film as well. They are all very friendly and will sign and answer anything you throw at them. I definitely recommend checking out the movie. My interview with the director will be coming soon.
As for other booths to check out, if you’re a fan of video games stop by the XBOX booth in the main hall to play the new Halo game in multi-player mode with 10 other people. You can do the same thing at the Ubisoft booth to take a crack at Assassins Creed Revelations.
Don’t forget to check out the Legendary booth to look at cool movie memorabilia or get Frank Miller’s autograph, take a picture on the set of The Avengers at the Marvel booth, and play some Capcom games, tournament style, at their booth. You can get free swag at all of them.
Lastly, the kick-off concert in the GN theater was flippin’ sweet. Tom Morello was crazy on his guitar and his new gig as the Nightwatchman was pretty good. My favorite though, besides Tom’s final song, was DJ Z-Trip. As a big fan of mash-ups Z-trip tore it up. He mixed tons of pop culture songs and quotes with heavy beats for some crazy songs. Then he brought it back to the main stream with hip-hop, funk and pop. For those who were into it, like me and the group I was hanging out with, the show was a lot of fun.
I’ll be posting a video of Z-Trip mixing Star Wars The Imperial March. The beat drops about a minute in. Video to be uploaded tomorrow
