We have known for quite some time that Kick-Ass 2 was currently underway via all the spy photos that have been popping up over the web. We have also known that Jim Carrey, John Leguizamo and Donald Faison would be joining the cast for this go around. However, what we didn’t know was what the official synopsis for the film was going to be. Of course one might think that, “Hey it’s Kick-Ass 2, it’s going to be like the comic book”. A logical guess, but sometimes that is not always the case.
Here is the official synopsis that was released by the studio yesterday. It gives us a much better understanding of what to expect and while it sounds pretty identical to the comic but there will be some changes according to Mark Miller.
Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010′s irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2. After Kick-Ass’ (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our hero joins them on patrol. When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)—reborn as The Mother F%&*^r—only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation
When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world’s first superhero team with Mindy. Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she’s forced to retire—leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own. With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes.
Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets, the world’s first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad. But there’s only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with them all.
Like I said before, pretty similar to the comic book. Back to what Millar said about the difference between the film and the comic though, because that is the interesting part for those that have read the comic. As you know the comic is very, very graphic and there are some particular scenes that probably wont make it to the big screen adaptation due to ratings and the lack of appeal to that sort of stuff to the general public. Will people still die in the film? Um yeah did you see Kick-Ass? Just because they are going to tone it down a bit doesn’t mean they will make it a PG or PG-13 film!
Also Miller stated that the format of the film would not follow that of the comic book. The first 30 minutes of the film is suppose to be about Hit-Girl’s story and the remaining 70 minutes would follow Kick-Ass’ story. Somehow I have a feeling these stories will eventually intertwine for the epic ending.
