One of the highlights of this year’s New York Comic-Con for me was when Alex and I got to meet and have an awesome conversation with Travis Beacham, who developed the story and co-wrote the screenplay for Pacific Rim. Not only is it one of the movies I’m most looking forward to this year — frankly any Guillermo del Toro movie is a “must see” on my list — but Beacham talked with Alex and I for so long about the film and how excited he is for it. I mean, how could you not be when del Toro decides to get involved with your giant robot/monster mash screenplay?
There was a second preview screening for the film last week, and by all accounts it was a rousing success. Slash Film scoured Twitter for post-screening reactions, and none of the reactions were overly negative. In fact, most of them were ridiculously and insanely positive. Add that to the recently released latest poster for the film — which you can see to the left — I don’t think I could possibly look forward to this movie anymore. Too bad it won’t get released until July 12!
With a cast made up of a lot of international actors, including Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, and Clifton Collins, Jr. and a sequel already in the works, I think moviegoers are in for an action/sci-fi experience we haven’t seen in quite some time in 2D, 3D, and in IMAX.
