For those out there who are into PC gaming it’s no news that Legendary Pictures has been slowly working on getting a Warcraft film off the ground. It was announced back in February that Duncan Jones, the director of Moon and Source Code, would be directing the video game adaptation. Then, over the summer at San Diego Comic Con, CEO Thomas Tull showed off some concept footage for the upcoming feature and now it seems things are really starting to gear up.
Today, Deadline got the scoop that Paula Patton (2 Guns) is in negotiations to take on a lead role in Warcraft while Colin Farrell is currently in talks for the other lead, though the latter is currently up in the air and apparently Jones has some other actors he’s testing out as well. It’s impossible to tell what these roles will be like since no word about Charles Leavitt’s script has leaked, no has a plot synopsis been revealed. Side note: Is it me or is Paula the new Zoe Saldana? Just wondering. Any who, these are some interesting choices and since there is no story to associate them with we can’t assume they will be live-action roles or motion-capture animated ones. I have a feeling we’re going to some crazy Avatar like film since this is being labeled as one of Legendry’s biggest projects to date.
If you’ve never played the game, people control avatars (RPG style) who battle in a medieval like world (and some others) and complete various adventures to build their character’s strengths and other abilities. It’s one of the most popular PC games out there and one in which I refuse to play due to its addictiveness.
For those of you that play Warcraft, what do you think of these actors joining the film?
