If you had any doubts that Peter Jackson was back in full force on The Hobbit films, check out the video below. Jackson‘s first video blog — which honestly features better production values than most films these days — gives us exclusive sneak peaks at the Rivendell and Gollum’s cave sets and features shots of all the principal cast members (though not in costume!) If I’m already getting chills from this behind the scenes footage, I can’t imagine how I’ll feel on opening day!
And just so you know, that small man in the video isn’t Deep Roy (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) as many online have speculated, but Kiran Shan, who was the “size double” for the hobbit actors in Lord of the Rings. So no, Deep Roy is NOT in The Hobbit!
The Hobbit films — which are reportedly individually titled The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There And Back Again — are set for a two-part release in December 2012 and 2013. Many actors from the Lord of the Rings trilogy are returning to reprise their roles in the Hobbit project, including Elijah Wood, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee, and Andy Serkis.
Actors new to Middle-Earth include Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, along with Richard Armitage, Aidan Turner, James Nesbitt, Graham McTavish, Robert Kazinsky, Jed Brophy, Ken Scott, Stephen Hunter, John Callen, Adam Brown, William Kircher, Mark Hadlow, and Peter Hambleton, who will all be playing Bilbo’s thirteen dwarf companions.
