As we enter into this winter’s awards season, talk about Michelle Williams’ performance in Blue Valentine opposite Ryan Gosling (All Good Things) is making headlines. However, details and images behind her role as the unforgettable, legendary screen icon and sex symbol Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn is hitting the world wide web as well. Hit the jump to see the full image!
Williams told UK’s Daily Mail, “I knew I wouldn’t be able to resist… Physically and vocally, everything about her is different from me. I’ve kind of gone to school and had teachers to help me understand Marilyn, so I could project an essence of her.”
As the film has just recently wrapped, the actress revealed a great deal about how she was affected by the opportunity to play the troubled star. “At a certain point, something else does take over. I don’t quite feel myself these days… It rearranges you, it shifts your molecules, lifts you up, spins you around, puts you back down and you’re not quite the same, for better or for worse.”
She adds, “When I first approached the part, I thought that there were three, even four parts to Marilyn.” This refers to Monroe as a public figure, the private woman who was known as Norma Jeane Baker, and perhaps even Monroe’s persona during filming of The Prince and The Showgirl opposite Sir Laurence Olivier, played by Kenneth Branagh in My Week with Marilyn.
Even though the movie will not be released any time soon, we can hope that Williams will reach the same acclaim that Cate Blanchett received in bringing back to life the great Katharine Hepburn in The Aviator.
