Filming might not start for well over a month and director Peter Jackson is still recovering, but that didn’t stop the first press conference for The Hobbit on February 10. Although there was no big news spilled during the event — although a lot of laughs, showing the cast to be in great spirits — with it came the first photo of the primary cast — Bilbo Baggins (played by Martin Freeman, far right) and his thirteen dwarf companions from Stuff magazine. You can click on the Bleeding Cool link after the jump for a bigger version. Of course, this just makes me anticipate seeing them in costume even more! After the jump, we’ll review the key details of the upcoming two-part film for you.
Many actors from the Lord of the Rings trilogy are returning to reprise their roles in the Hobbit project, including Elijah Wood, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee, and Andy Serkis, with Hugo Weaving seeming to be the only hold-out so far (let’s hope that changes!)
Actors new to Middle-Earth include the above pictured Thorin and Company: Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Aidan Turner, James Nesbitt, Graham McTavish, Robert Kazinsky, Jed Brophy, Ken Scott, Stephen Hunter, John Callen, Adam Brown, William Kircher, Mark Hadlow, and Peter Hambleton, who will all be playing Bilbo’s thirteen dwarf companions.
The film is set for a two-part release in December 2012 and 2013, and is directed by Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson, who also co-wrote the script.
