The Film Stage has the first photos from the set of the Wes Anderson’s (The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, The Darjeeling Limited) next film, Moonrise Kingdom. The pics are definitely behind-the-scenes photos — Bill Murray looks like he has no desire to be in the photo to the left, and those are obviously modern cars in the background, which wouldn’t work in a film set in 1965. But at least they give us a glimpse of the camp set and Ed Norton doing his best Canteen Boy impression.
Additionally, The Film Stage is reporting that Harvey Keitel (Reservoir Dogs, Mean Streets) has been quietly cast in the film in an unspecified role. He’s been seen on set hanging out with Murray (I would pay good money to know what they do for fun!), giving me yet another reason to look forward to Anderson‘s next film.

Moonrise Kingdom will be released by Focus Features, which has provided this plot synopsis:
“Set on an island off the coast of New England in the 1960s, Moonrise Kingdom follows a young boy and girl falling in love. When they are moved to run away together, various factions of the town mobilize to search for them and the town is turned upside down – which might not be such a bad thing. Bruce Willis plays the town sheriff; two-time Academy Award nominee Edward Norton is cast as a camp leader; Academy Award nominee Bill Murray and Academy Award winner Frances McDormand portray the young girl’s parents; the cast also includes Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton and Jason Schwartzman. The young boy and girl are played by Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward.”
The script is written by Anderson and Roman Coppola, who previously collaborated on the script for the wonderful Darjeeling Limited. The Film Stage speculates that it’s likely set for a 2012 release.
