I stand by my statements that Piranha 3D was a lot of fun and had one of the best uses of 3D since the post-Avatar 3D renaissance (or overkill, depending on your view of it). So count me as one of the many (or few?) who are looking forward to seeing what can be done with nudity, man-eating fish, and a water park in the sequel, Piranha 3DD. But since the film is already set for a November 23rd release, it’s a bit surprising that not much of the cast has been announced. Luckily Slashfilm has hit us with a list of the film’s stars, including several returning faces!
Ving Rhames, Christopher Lloyd, and Paul Scheer are all returning — which will be quite a feat for Rhames, since his character, Deputy Fallon, looked left for dead in the original. Joining them will be Katrina Bowden (TV’s 30 Rock), Danielle Panabaker (Friday the 13th), Gary Busey, Matt Bush (Adventureland), Chris Zylka (The Amazing Spider-Man), David Koechner (Anchorman), Meagan Tandy (Unstoppable), among others. In particular, I’m chomping at the bit to see what David Koechner can do in this movie — I’m sure he’ll get the best lines!
The sequel will be directed by John Gulager from a script by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dustan (the team behind Feast).
What are your thoughts on the Piranha 3DD casting? Did you like the first film as much as I did? Give us your thoughts in the comments!
