Well, it was too good to be true. 2012 looked like it would be the first year with two Pixar animated releases — Brave in June and the Monsters Inc. prequel — now titled Monsters University — in November. Today, however, Disney announced it was pushing back Monsters University to June 21, 2013. It’s taking the place of a Disney Studios animated film, Reboot Ralph, which has been bumped up to March 22, 2013. There’s no concrete info about Reboot Ralph except its title (IMDB doesn’t even list a director or writer… something tells me Reboot Ralph just hit the fast track).
Monsters University will be the feature-length debut of Dan Scanlon, who has worked at Pixar under a variety of capacities and will bring back both Billy Crystal and John Goodman as Mike and Sulley, naturally, and tell the story about how the two characters became such best friends. This will be Pixar’s first prequel, and, as I previously reported, will be the last Pixar sequel for the foreseeable future.
