If you actually thought Toy Story 3 would be the last we saw of Woody, Buzz, and Mr. Potato-Head, you definitely don’t know much about the company who owns Pixar. The Walt Disney Company has been using Mickey Mouse continuously since 1928, so by that logic the Toy Story characters still have a few more decades left in the tank. But don’t start planning to buy midnight showing tickets for Toy Story 4 yet. In fact, Pixar has already announced that the gang would first re-appear in a short preceding this summer’s Cars 2. Recently the plot details of the short have leaked, click “more” to get the scoop!
According to the Amazon.com listing of the book adaptation of the short (what? You doubted Disney would put out a book based on the short too? Have you never been in a Disney store?), the short will star Barbie and Ken…
“Bonnie is off to Hawaii, and Barbie and Ken are excited to go along on their first tropical vacation! But when they’re accidentally left behind, it’s up to Buzz, Woody, and the rest of the toys to create a Hawaiian paradise right in Bonnie’s room. Based on the latest animated short featuring the toys from Disney/Pixar Toy Story, this full-color storybook includes punch-out postcards that girls and boys ages 3-7 will love sending to their friends!”
Toy Story 3 was one of the best films of 2010, and a big part of that was Michael Keaton absolutely knocking his performance as Ken out of the park. I’m happy to see him take a central role in the short, but I’m just as excited to read that Buzz, Woody, and “the rest of the toys” will be involved too.
Cars 2, with the accompanying Toy Story “Hawaii” short, will hit theaters on June 24.
