Sometime next week, the world will get to see the first trailer for Iron Man 3. As of right now there is a promotion going on with the Iron Man Facebook account asking for “likes” to unlock a sneak peak at the film. While it looks like over 50,000 likes thus far hasn’t done much, we do have something for you now and it won’t require any likes, unless you want to “like” MovieBuzzers, then that’s OK.
Marvel sent out a press release for both Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World, which included the first plot synopsis for the films. Check them out and then lets discuss what we learned from these.

So lets stop right there before we get to Thor and discuss briefly what the synopsis tells us or rather what isn’t mentioned. First you will notice there is nothing about Extremis or The Mandarin mentioned in the plot, which is fine, those are two crucial parts of the film so there really isn’t a need to be in the synopsis, however they are involved with the film. Second, it’s interesting to see the synopsis and think back to the footage we were shown during SDCC this year. The storyline is starting to fall into place and it seems like most of the scenes that were shown will take place in the first act of the film. I’m glad to see they are going with the concept of “Does the Armor Make the Man or does the Man Make the Armor” approach because Tony will definitely be tested in more ways than one in the film.
Now lets get to the Thor Synopsis

Now that is one hell of a plot synopsis right there. Just reading it gets me excited for the film and we still have a little longer than a year to go before we can see it. The biggest thing to take away from this is both the mention of Malekith, who is the leader of the dark elves and also the mention of a sacrifice that Thor will make to save our world.
A couple of things come to mind regarding the sacrifice aspect. I would consider this next part a bit spoilerish even though there is no solid evidence but more of here-say.
There have been rumors and mentions that Jane Foster would be killed/sacrifice/or voluntarily sacrifice herself in the sequel. Will this happen? Not 100% sure but since I first heard about this during SDCC and now seeing it in the plot synopsis, it holds a bit more ground. I can’t really think of any other type of sacrificethat Thor would make besides not being able to return (which we know that didn’t work last go around) or maybe losing a friend (Warriors Three or Sif) which is even less likely.
We probably wont get a trailer for Thor until sometime next year, however it would be a nice Holiday treat if Marvel was to release one in the coming months, especially since production has been underway for quite some time now.
