I haven’t posted much about director Bong Joon-ho‘s English language debut, Snowpiercer, but that doesn’t mean I’m not waiting in anticipation like a kid on Christmas morning hoping to get an X-box 360. The South Korean director of The Host and Mother is the third filmmaker making the jump to Hollywood for a feature release in 2013, following Kim Ji-woon and Park Chan-wook, and he is bringing his unique vision to what will likely be a visually impressive yet dreary film based on the French graphic novel, Le Transperceneige.
Set in a post-apocalyptic future, the film features an impressive cast comprised of Chris Evans, Jamie Bell, Tilda Swinton, Song Kang-ho, John Hurt, Alison Pill, Octavia Spencer and Ewen Bremner. Today, the first poster for the film has been released and it shows John Hurt making a stand as tensions between the developed social classes on the train begin to grow.
Take a look at the poster below and be sure to keep this one on your radar for when a release date is set.
Snowpiercer is set in a future where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an Ice Age kills off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. A class system evolves on the train but a revolution brews.
The Weinstein Company will be releasing the film later this year, I’d say fall most likely.
