One of my favorite actresses working in the business today has to be Michelle Yeoh. Not only is she a talented martial artist, but she is also very good at carrying a film and handling any dramatic roles thrown at her. I can’t say my love for Luc Besson is that high but I do love many of his films and I’m liking the change of pace with his last feature entitled The Lady.
The film stars Yeoh as Aung San Suu Kyi, a Burmese revolutionary leader who lead the country in their fight for democracy. The Lady is based on real life events and will probably begin with the words “based on a true story.” Again, Besson is going down the dramatic biopic path which is something he rarely does, so I’m curious to see how this political film plays out, especially with Yeoh and David Thewlis starring.
The story of Aung San Suu Kyi, the woman who is at the core of Burma’s democracy movement, and her husband, Michael Aris. Despite distance, long separations, and a dangerously hostile regime, their love endures until the very end.
The teaser trailer, which comes from Yahoo!, doesn’t really give us much to go off of except that the film might be beautifully shot. But hey, you be the judge. Check out the teaser trailer for The Lady below and let us know what you think.
