We didn’t see much of Will Ferrell in theaters in 2011, so it’s great to know that we’ll get a dose of one of the funniest men in America in March. Of course, there’s a catch — no, it’s not another sports movie — it’s in Spanish, done in the style of a Spanish soap opera. It’s a very unique idea and a fantastic departure from Ferrell’s usual schtick.
Collider has two new posters for Casa de mi Padre, and both are sufficiently retro. I’m already sold on the line “From the Gringos who Brought You Anchorman” on the second one. Check them out below, then read the synopsis!
Armando Alvarez (Will Ferrell) has lived and worked on his father’s ranch in Mexico his entire life. As the ranch encounters financial difficulties, Armando’s younger brother Raul (Diego Luna) shows up with his new fiancee, Sonia (Genesis Rodriguez). It seems that Raul’s success as an international businessman means the ranch’s troubles are over as he pledges to settle all debts his father has incurred. But when Armando falls for Sonia, and Raul’s business dealings turn out to be less than legit, all hell breaks loose as they find themselves in a war with Mexico’s most feared drug lord, the mighty Onza (Gael Garcia Bernal).
Casa de mi Padre is set for a March 16 release. It is directed by Matt Piedmont (Saturday Night Live, Funny or Die), his first feature film, and written by Andrew Steele (Saturday Night Live, Funny or Die, The Ladies Man) and produced by Ferrell and buddy Adam McKay (the gringos).
