As if Jessica Chastain hasn’t already made quite the entrance in Hollywood this year, the actress who’s made a splash with her roles in The Help, The Debt, Taking Shelter, and Terrence Malick’s The Tree of Life is set to star as Princess Diana in an upcoming biopic called Caught in Flight.
The web is already a-buzz with this news and nay-sayers are touting that an American actress can’t compare to the People’s Princess who tragically died in a car accident fourteen years ago.
According to The Daily Mail, the movie “tells the story of Diana’s secret affair with heart surgeon Dr Hasnat Khan, telling the story of their love – and painting a vivid picture of Diana’s psychological demise after Khan calls time on their relationship.”
Indie Wire calls the movie a “love story between a princess locked in a tower and an ordinary man.”
The movie is set to go into production in March 2012, under the direction of Oliver Hirschbiegel (The Invasion) and written by Steven Jeffreys (The Libertine), which supposedly portrays Princess Diana as a desperate and damaged stalker of her lover, even after their affair has ended.
Chastain has been making headlines a lot recently with her role opposite Tom Cruise in Horizons, her second time working with Malick in an untitled film, and last month’s Texas Killing Fields. The actress is also currently filming the horror movie, Mama with director Andres Muschietti.
Do you agree with a Princess Diana movie being made? Or do you think that some stories should be left alone? Can you see Chastain in the part?
