The horror community has once again proven to be a loyal fan base as they have recently funded an upcoming documentary for aspiring filmmaker and Syracuse University student Kyle Kuchta.
The film, entitled Fantasm, will portray horror conventions and the fanatics that attend them. In particular, Kuchta’smain goal will be to find out what it is about horror films that brings so many people together. “I wanted to do a documentary on horror conventions,” he explains, “becauseI didn’t feel as if a lot of people knew about them or the lovingcommunity that they are a part of.” That statement was confirmed after the film’s budget was funded in asurprisingly short eleven days through Kickstarter..
In addition, Fantasm is expected to feature commentary from iconic horror filmmakers and actors and Kuchta has already secured interviews with Heather Langenkamp (A Nightmare on Elm Street, New Nightmare), Tom Atkins (Halloween III, Escape from New York), Joe Lynch (Chillerama, Wrong Turn 2), and Amanda Wyss (A Nightmare on Elm Street). The documentaryis expected to wrap in May 2013 after it it completes filmming at the upcoming horror conventions, Monster-Mania in Cherry Hill, NJ and HorrorHound Weekend in Cincinnati, OH
