It’s pretty common for Quentin Tarantino to take several years to make a movie, and also common for him to change his mind about projects he intends to direct. Naturally, any trickle of news about what he plans on doing next is big news to fans of his films — of which there are many. So even though it’s just a little tidbit, Tarantino’s recent remarks on what he plans on doing next are extremely newsworthy.
Tarantino appeared on The Tonight Show to promote the release of a comic adaptation of Django Unchained, and during the interview mentioned that he’s currently writing another Western. His exact words were:
“It’s not a Django sequel, but it’s another western. The thing is, I had so much fun doing Django and I love westerns so much that after I taught myself how to make one it’s like ‘Well, okay, let me make another one now I know what I’m doing.’”
Of course, Tarantino has a history of talking about other projects that have yet to materialize (Kill Bill: Vol. 3, The Vega Brothers, Killer Crow). He’s also spoken about retiring from filmmaking when he turns 60 ten years from now. But being that Django Unchained was a great movie, I’m definitely on board with another Tarantino Western. Tarantino is obviously a huge fan of the genre, so if another Western makes him happy, awesome.
So is this good news to you, or would you like to see Tarantino work in a different genre? Let us know in the comments.
