If someone was to ask you what film was one of the highest grossing films of 2011, I’m pretty sure Insidious would not be on many peoples’ list. However the film that only cost around $1.5 million to make ended up pulling in right around $100 million, not bad for a film that left movie-goers leaving the theater scratching their heads asking themselves what happened next. Well the answers look to be coming soon with a sequel to the film set to hit theaters next year.
Insidious Chapter 2 (as it is currently being called) is currently set to begin production sometime in January with the goal to have the film hit theaters August 30, 2013. Being brought back for a second helping are both writer Leigh Whannell and director James Wan. Also coming back for more paranormal activities will be the stars from the first film, Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, Lin Shaye and Ty Simpkins.
As of right now there is no news regarding the plot of the second film, nor do we know if it in fact will be a sequel. There is the off chance that this could be a prequel, but with the way things ended with the first film, I think there would be many angry fans if this was the route that was chosen as oppose to answering a few of the questions the original left people with.
Will the title change between now in August 30th? Possibly, but with just leaving it as chapter 2 it sort of gives you that feeling that this is just the beginning of what could possibly be the next Saw or Paranormal Activity franchise in the making. Maybe chapter 3 will be an origin story and then the fourth one will pick up where number 2 ends and so on and so on. Whatever the case maybe, it is safe to say that the next film will probably have a much bigger budget then the original which could take some of the flare that the first film had away.
