Gareth Evans is finally getting his shot at making an English language film (thank God!) thanks to the performance of his awesome action film, The Raid: Redemption. Universal has acquired the film Breaking the Bank, a fact-based drama which was adapted from a Sports Illustrated article Breaking The Bank by L. Jon Wertheim and Howard Sounes’ novel, Heist: The True Story Of The World’s Biggest Cash Robbery.
“Breaking The Bank is based on the life of former UFC fighter “Lightning” Lee Murray, a mixed martial arts street brawler who masterminded the largest cash heist in history in England in 2006.”
The film was originally developed by Darren Aronofsky, which I didn’t know about, with the current draft of the screenplay penned by Kerry Williamson (Alex Cross).
This sounds like an awesome project and a perfect one for Evans. Though I can’t imagine there will be a lot of fighting until the robbery, I sitll believe Evans can easily pull something like this off and I’m excited to see how it turns out.
