Before Mel Gibson‘s most recent rash of bad publicity, the Jodie Foster directed black comedy The Beaver was due for release in 2010. Perhaps wisely, the film was postponed indefinitely. However, thanks to Deadline.com, we finally have a release date window for The Beaver. Hit more to find out when you can finally see this quirky high-concept film… if you’re still interested in anything Gibson, that is.
Summit Entertainment has set Spring 2011 for the film’s release, although the exact month has not been decided. Many have scoffed at the idea of this film even being released (or Gibson ever working in film again, like, oh, some of the cast of The Hangover Part 2). Many have predicted that this film would bomb, but I think that any society that’s willing to turn a blind eye to Charlie Sheen‘s numerous debacles in order to tune in to Two and a Half Men every week will be more than willing to give Gibson another chance.
Oh, yeah, the plot? Gibson is a depressed CEO of a toy company who decides to use a beaver hand puppet to communicate with his family. Yes, it sounds odd, but the script, by new-to-film Kyle Killen, is rumored to be brilliant. Guess we’ll see in Spring 2011!
The Beaver stars both Gibson and Foster as married couple Walter and Meredith Black. Check out a new released photo of the pair below:
What’s your view on the controversy, folks? Any interest in seeing a film starring Gibson anymore, or has he long worn out his welcome?
