After The Muppets made more than five times as much money as the previous Muppet film Muppets From Space and became the highest grossing Muppet movie it was obvious that Disney wouldn’t wait on making another film starring Jim Henson‘s lovable creations. And why not? Who doesn’t love the Muppets?
IGN reports that Disney has set December 20, 2013 as when we’ll see Kermit and the gang again. Returning to the franchise is Nicholas Stoller, who co-wrote The Muppets, and director James Bobin, who will not only direct but co-write the new film. Also returning is Bret McKenzie to write the songs after he won a well-deserved Oscar for “Man or Muppet” from the last movie.
Many have grumbled that Jason Segel isn’t involved in this installment, but I am happy about that — while I’m appreciative of Segel using his starpower to bring the Muppets back to prominence, I don’t think the Muppets should have regular human co-stars. So who will be along for the ride for this movie? Since the film is set as a caper film set in Europe, none other than Oscar winner Christoph Waltz will star as an Interpol inspector. Huh, wouldn’t have pegged him as a Muppets fan
The next Muppet film will start shooting early next year in London.
