After only being confirmed a few days ago, the details regarding Rhys Ifans’ role have finally spilled. Ifans, who’s appeared in films like Mr. Nice, Pirate Radio, and The Replacements, will be playing Dr. Curt Connors or, who I prefer to call, The Lizard, in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot.
I’ve been waiting a long time to see The Lizard get the big screen treatment and I couldn’t be happier with the casting choice. As a big fan of Ifans, I really do think he will nail the role of a mad scientist masterfully due to his sophisticated demeanor and ability to go absolutely nuts.
This news comes exclusively from The Wrap who has also confirmed some details regarding the fate of Venom in Marc Webb’s (500 Days of Summer) Spider-Man film. Let’s just say that those who have been praying for the resurrection of Venom after an upsetting appearance in Spiderman 3 will be disappointed. Venom will not be appearing in the latest Spidey installment.
While Venom is quite possibly one of the greatest comic book characters in the world, I’d rather not see the film get carried away with too many costumed characters and instead see him on his own in another movie.
As of now, Ifans’ Lizard will be sharing screen time with Andrew Garfield, who is playing Peter Parker, and Emma Stone who has been cast as Spider-Man’s other love interest, Gwen Stacy.
What are your thoughts on the casting of Ifans as The Lizard?
