So far, all we know is that Ridley Scott is on board to direct a new film set in the Blade Runner universe that he helped create based off a Philip K. Dick story with his 1982 science fiction classic. We know it’s NOT a remake (thank goodness), but that’s about it.
Of course, if this film is going to go anywhere we need a writer to get it going. Twitch reports that a writer might have been found, as Scott and the film’s producers have picked Scott Z. Burns (Contagion, The Bourne Ultimatum, the upcoming The Man from U.N.C.L.E.) as their collective top choice for the project. That to me sounds like good news — I am sure dozens of screenwriters are jockeying for this project, so if Burns is the top choice he obviously has something good up his sleeve.
I’m really looking forward to this film as Ridley Scott consistently turns in strong ones and has much more imagination than the average blockbuster filmmaker. Once he gets Prometheus out of the way, I assume, we’ll hear more about Blade Runner.
